Directors are always behind the scenes and don’t get a lot of love compared to their lead stars. But they are also the ones who toil and work hard to make sure we, the audience, get the best content. They’re the bosses of every set. Their vision is what creates the films, series, and other shows we love to watch. Sometimes, we have filmmakers who look like they deserve to be on-screen.
Here is a list of directors who are relatively young but are surely good-looking enough to star in their own films!
1. Lino Cayetano
The brother of politicians Pia and Allan Cayetano, Lino is also a big name in his own right. Pursuing a career in film directing when his siblings wanted to go to politics, Lino directed Tanging Yaman, Aryana, and Noah. He is now married to Ateneo volleyball player Fille Cainglet. They have two children and one on the way.
2. Rico Gutierrez
Rico always had a passion for the arts. This is why he chose a painting scholarship at Parsons School of Design despite also having a scholarship for the physical sciences at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. Rico directed Shake, Rattle, and Roll XI, Survivor PH, Magpakailanman, and Showbiz Central.
3. G.B. Sampedro
G.B. is a flexible director that has done a lot of television shows for TV5. He’s also done mainstream and indie movies. He has this style of making movies inspired by his own life experiences. An example would be his movie Separados when he separated from his wife back in 2005.
4. Pepe Diokno
Pepe is an internationally acclaimed director when he won the Luigi de Laurentiis Award for Best Debut Film at the Venice Film Festival. He has directed Engkwentro and Above the Clouds.
5. Mikhail Red
He was 21 when he directed his own feature-length film. Under his belt, he directed Rekorder, Harang, Kamera, Unawa, The Barriers.
6. Ronnie del Carmen
The Cavite born animation film director has been a success internationally. Ronnie was a co-director of the Pixar hit Inside Out. He supervised the story of Up and directed the short film featuring Doug, the dog from Up.
7. Raya Martin
Raya is the first Filipino director under 30 to be accepted into the Cinéfondation Résidence of the Cannes Film Festival. He is known to have a unique style of filmmaking and this led to his movie being shown in different countries. His works are How to Disappear Completely, Autohysteria, Now Showing (trilogy), The Great Cinema Party.
8. Jerrold Tarog
Jerrold has made name for himself in the Filipino film industry for his famous work, Heneral Luna. Not only is he a director but Jerrold is also known as a composer, writer-editor, and sound designer. Some of his works are Confessions and Sana Dati.
9. Rafa Santos
Sometimes controversial, this bad boy-looking director is a talented one. He entered the Marilou Diaz-Abaya Film Institute and was mentored by some of the greatest directors of our country. Rafa says he won’t stop until he creates a movie for Cinemalaya. You can check out his movie Samarito to see how he directs.
10. Gino Santos
Gino is a name in the Indie scene for his full-length film The Animals that won Best in Editing at Cinemalaya. He also directed Ex with Benefits.
11. Paul Soriano
Coming from a family that lives for the film industry, grandfather Nestor de Villa and his father who is also a director, Paul inherited these genes well. He has created films like Thelma and Kid Kulafu.
