When they say that age is just a number, they might be thinking of people who are in their 60’s or 70’s and doing things out of their character. For one 90-year-old Czech grandma, age won’t stop her from turning her small village of Louka into her own mini art gallery.

It was similar to the prettily painted homes of Zalipie in Poland, albeit her designs were relatively simpler.

Agnes Kasparkova lives in a small district in southern Moravia of the Czech Republic. It has a low population, but it wasn’t lacking in popularity. Thanks to Agnes, Louka is considered as one of the most delightful villages in her country.

Despite being a nonagenarian, Agnes paints traditional Moravian motifs across the walls of her village’s structures. For 30 years, hand painting is something she enjoys doing during her free time, after she retired from her agricultural work.

Armed with a brush and a can of paint, Agnes works her magic on the façade of Louka’s buildings.

Her trademark design is a flowery theme done in Moravian motif. But she let on a secret: Agnes never plans her pattern, making it up as she goes. She’s truly winging it, just like a true artist!

She only uses the bright blue color otherwise known as ultramarine, perfectly contrasting against the whitewashed walls. Her intricate designs won’t immediately wash out because she proudly uses an expensive paint. It would take two years before she does touch-ups for her artwork.

Despite the buzz around her artwork, this humble grandma only had this to say: “I’m just doing what I like. I try to help decorate the world a bit.”

According to the accidental artist, she only picked up the hobby from another Czech named Manakova. When she died, Agnes took on the task of continuing her work.

However, she’s not as sprightly as she used to. During winter, it’s hard for Agnes to paint outside because of her frail hands and body.

Since she is stubborn as a mule, Agnes doesn’t easily give up. She even climbs up ladders to reach the village chapel’s windows and doorframes. According to her, painting keeps her active.

At 90, Agnes has truly made her small world a better and prettier place.
