MANILA, Philippines— Amidst the Duterte family’s dispute with Senator Antonio Trillanes this week, President Rodrigo Duterte has finally retorted by threatening to release the latter’s bank deposits abroad.
In an interview with the press during the closing ceremony of the 26th Mindanao Business Conference held in Cagayan de Oro City, Duterte exclaimed that he could no longer bear Trillanes’ snide remarks and corruption allegations against his family. A disgruntled president faced the press and clapped back to Trillanes during his speech:
“I’m coming up with Trillanes’ bank deposits all over. Ngayon, nakuha ko na, akala kasi niya hindi ko rin kaya eh.”
Duterte claimed that he would be releasing Trillanes’ bank deposits as well as transactions abroad to the public soon, but he did not reveal exactly when. He also exposed that the senator has many questionable and controversial joint accounts in different countries in Asia and America.
“I am giving you, in a few days, the number of deposits that he has with his Chinese joint accounts. It’s all over. Hong Kong, Australia, America.”
In his speech, Duterte emphasized his stance against corruption. The president said that he maintains his commitment to stop corruption, and if ever handed with any evidence linking him or his family to it, he would render a resignation.
On the other hand, in a report published on CNN Philippines, Trillanes firmly denied Duterte’s claim regarding his joint accounts abroad. According to Trillanes, the president is evidently grasping for straws. Trillanes said in a text message to CNN Philippines:
“Hindi totoo yan. Fake news yan. Sinungaling yan si Duterte. Hinahamon ko siya na ilabas niya yung detalye at agaran ako pipirma ng waiver para malaman ang katotohanan.”
It seems like the tables have been turned. During the presidential campaign period, it was Trillanes who bombarded the then presidential aspirant Duterte with corruption allegations with his bank deposits. Trillanes claimed that millions of pesos were deposited in Duterte’s 17 accounts hosted by three different banks.
Do you think Duterte will follow-up with his claims and release Trillanes’ bank transactions soon? We’d love to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts in the comments section below. For more your daily dose of news and entertainment, feel free to visit our website.
