MANILA, Philippines— Last week, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) and former Negros Oriental Representative Jacinto ‘Jing’ Paras threatened to file several criminal cases against Senator Risa Hontiveros. On Monday, September 25, the ex-solon went through with his words and sued Senator Hontiveros before the Office of the Ombudsman.

According to a report published in GMA News, ex-solon Paras filed multiple criminal charges on the grounds that the senator revealed his personal text messages to Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II. Hontiveros faced a string of criminal charges filed by Paras such as kidnapping, obstruction of justice and wiretapping as well.

Allegedly, Hontiveros brought several minor witnesses away from their home. The complaint reads:

“Respondent Hontiveros and her co-conspirators then brought the Concepcion minors and their siblings to an undisclosed location and without informing the authorities of their whereabouts. Worse, the subject minors who are eyewitnesses in the Kian Loyd delos Santos slay case were not turned over either to the Department of Social Welfare and Development or to the Department of Justice for processing and inclusion in its witness protection program, among others.”

VACC and the ex-solon have been planning to file complaints against the senator since last week, as reported in Kicker Daily on Tuesday. In the official complaint,

“Despite due demand, respondent Hontiveros had refused to do so in violation of Article 270 of the Revised Penal Code (kidnapping by failure to return the minors to their parents). It bears emphasis that (the father of the minors) has the right and the duty to demand that the children, especially the minor children, be restored to him, especially since he has already regained his liberty.”

On the other hand, the senator is yet to comment on Paras’ charges.
