People all over the Philippines were shocked when the tragic death of a hazing victim made headlines nationwide. Horacio Tomas Castillo III was a law student studying at the University of Santo Tomas who met an untimely end because of brutal hazing rites.

In the early morning of September 17, Friday, the 22-year old’s cold and lifeless body was found lying on a pavement in the corner of H. Lopez Boulevard and Infanta Street in Balut, Tondo, Manila. It was not until later that day when his family found out the tragic fate of their son.

An anonymous tip brought Horacio Castillo, Jr. and his wife to Archangel Funeral Home in Sampaloc, Manila where they first saw their son’s remains. Horacio’s body was riddled with bruises, cigarette burns, and candle wax drippings. It was evident from these injuries that Horacio was a hazing victim of the Aegis Juris fraternity.
