Veteran journalist Jay Sonza spoke his mind out in his Facebook post about President Rodrigo Duterte being often misunderstood, misread or taken out of context by his critics. Thus, he listed four probable reasons why difficult it is to comprehend the president.

But before he went over with his reasons, he first clarified that all his statements are from him, alone.

On the other hand, Sonza believes that Duterte thinks faster than he could speak. He then jokingly added, it is the very reason why the president could not finish all his sentences during press conferences because he thinks media men are smart enough to follow his line of thought.
The former adviser of Broadcast Union of the Philippines also pointed out that the chief executive was raised in cultures of different customs, languages and practices very far from the culture accustomed by the people from Luzon.
In addition, the former columnist looked back to the humble days of the president when he remained to live like any other ordinary people despite having rich friends.

He also said that people are not yet used to the idea of change that the president is trying to uphold in the country.
The member of National Union of Journalists in the Philippines also noted that aside from the qualities of Duterte as a person, the root of people’s misconceptions against him, the people working for him are also not helping him enough for people to understand the president.

Sonza was referring to the presidential spokesperson, Ernesto Abella.
“Instead of clarifying statement or policy pronouncement, he compounds it by his inability to speak with spontaneity and conviction,” he said.
In his full Facebook post, Sonza said,
KAWAWA NAMAN SI DIGONG
(Gets Mo?) Part 4 of 7
More often than not, Mr. Duterte is misunderstood, misread or taken out of context, especially for people who do not know him personally, who have not met him, who are not use to his manner of speaking, who have not experience his brand of leadership, who hates his guts and those who belong to the other side of the political fence and will eternally oppose anything this administration will do for the country. Those who possess meshianic complex who think that they are God’s gift to humanity.

First, Mr. Duterte thinks faster than he could speak. According to studies, ganito ang mga matataas ang IQ. He read more books, magazines and newspapers than any one of us. This specially pronounced when answers question during instant press conferences or ambush interview.
Second, si Mayor ipinanganak sa Leyte, lumaki sa Davao, lahing Cebuano (mind you buena familia ang angkan doon. if you want to know more about this as Jojo Robles of Manila Standard and DWIZ), Maranaw/Muslim at Tsino.
It becomes difficult only because some of the people around the president is not helping him. Foremost of which is the presidential spokesman.

By the way the presidential media relations is terrible. I say this because if it is in place, there wont be this imbalance media space as it appears today. And if I may suggest, no ambush interview for the president. It demeans the office At ito rin ang pinanggalingan ng mga binabaligtad na kuwento at upak kay Digong.
This is where I miss the likes of Juris Soliman (media relations), Didi Sytangco (spokesperson), and RTVM team of Erap. They were pro.
