We can’t really avoid having darkspot on our skin, that’s because skin covers our entire body. These dark, uneven spots are sometimes called sunspots, age spots, and brown spots like freckles that appear on the face, neck, chest, and extremities. Naturally occurring, these patches were primarily due to extended sun exposure, aging, or hyperpigmentation.
Skin discoloration, such as melasma, was primarily caused by increased production of melanocytes that, in turn, make the pigment called melanin. Basically, more melanin in your skin means darker color.
Aside from genetics, patches of dark skin can also be attributed to an unbalanced diet, weak liver function, illnesses, pregnancy, and poor hygiene – among others.
While having dark spots on your skin is not unhealthy, we consider it unattractive to have uneven and patchy skin tone. Fret not, for there are numerous natural home remedies that could treat dark spots without breaking the bank…and your skin.
Have you considered the potato and lemon concoction, for instance?
Now don’t go dropping this info like a hot potato, but a lot of people swear by this salad-like combo. Did you know that this humble starchy crop has uses other than as a side dish?
According to the website DIY Remedies, the potato has a slight bleaching property effective on pimple marks, dark spots, and blemishes. It has enzymes called catecholase that lessen skin discoloration, while the vitamins A, B, C, and E in this tuber minimizes premature facial aging.
Its greatest nutrient? The starch content in the potato actually diminishes pigmentation, and boosts your skin’s natural glow, aside from nourishing the skin.
On the other hand, lemon is a well-known beauty remedy because of the nutrients it contains which enhance the skin, nails, and hair. Thanks to its Vitamin C and citric acid content, the tangy lemon also makes dark spots disappear while evening out the skin tone.
So, when life gives you lemons, what do you do? Well, you mix the lemon juice with potato to get lighter skin.
According to DIY Remedies, grate a medium-sized potato. Extract its juice, and then squeeze in equal parts of lemon juice into the mix. Stir well and slather the mixture on pigmented skin areas. Wait for about 30 minutes, rinsing off the concoction with water. You may apply it twice a day, until you see lighter results.
Another way to do the potato-lemon mix is by blending the grated potato with pomegranate seeds. Squeeze in half a lemon, then freeze the juice into ice cubes. Pop one and apply onto skin or problematic areas. Use as often, but remember to wash off the mixture. Leaving it on will actually make your skin sting because of the acids from the lemon.
