Today, September 29, 2017, marks the first death anniversary of the late Miriam Defensor Santiago. It’s been a year, and Heart Evangelista still longs for her “Tita M.”

On her Instagram account, the Kapuso actress posted a photo of herself with the late senator. She wrote in the caption:

“One year has passed. Here I am thinking you’re just abroad, that one day the phone will just ring and we’ll talk for hours about anything and everything under the sun. How I wish that was true.”

“But, your unconditional love and wisdom inspire and help me go through each day. Tita M, you will always be my ‘Queen of Hearts.”

Not everyone knows that Heart and the late Miriam Defensor Santiago were close. In fact, Heart said that they had a mother-daughter kind of relationship. In a report by Abante, Heart and her husband, Chiz Escudero, plan to have a baby in 2018 — and if it’s a girl, they plan on naming her “Miriam” in memory of the late senator.

Heart recalled:

“You know, one time, may pinagdadaanan ako. She’s always the one, parang number one defender ko ‘yon eh. Medyo sad ako ng day na ‘yon. Medyo bugbog ako ng hits, here and there and then, napanaginipan ko siya na hinihintay niya ako, may dinner daw kami tapos in-embrace ko siya, naamoy ko ‘yung moisturizer niya. So I felt, that’s her way of reaching out to me.”

Heart Evangelista continued:

“Actually, one time, I was in my lanai…. Sabi ko, ‘Tita, andiyan ka ba? Is it just like that, you just leave? Is it that how you feel over there na wala ka nang pakialam sa amin? Can you send me a sign like any sign right now,’ eh ang init noon, ‘like wind?’”

“Humangin nang malakas na malakas. ’Yung mga dahon gumalaw, umiyak ako. Sabi ko, ‘Oh my God!’ I’m sure that’s something especially when you asked for it.”
