At such a young age, 12-year-old Mandy Sivillana became the de-facto parents of her siblings. Their mother was put behind bars due to illegal drugs, while her father, an Austrian, left when her mother was still pregnant with her. This heartbreaking story was featured in the recent episode of GMA‘s lifestyle magazine television program “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.”
Mandy said she already experienced what it’s like to be a mother. She looks after her siblings, does the daily household chores, cooks and feeds them. All of these get done day-by-day while Mandy still finds the time to go to school.
The young girl also shared that her playmates and classmates often make fun of her situation – adding that they often tell her that her father loves his real wife and not them. She narrated:
Mandy, now in tears, added that her classmates tease her every Father’s Day when every student has to bring their dad at school. But Mandy has no one to bring.
The young girl said:
Sinong dadalhin mo, yung aso niyo?”
To earn a living, Mandy sells wallet beads at school. She would then spend her earnings on food, diaper, and milk for her siblings. She also joins singing contests for extra income. Naturally, such responsibilities are robbing Mandy of her childhood.
Mandy tearfully explained:
“Dapat naglalaro ka sa kalsada. Dapat may nagpapaligo sayong nanay. Dapat may naghahatid sayo sa school na tatay. Sobrang hirap po.”
“Parang may hinahanap po yung damdamin ko. Parang kulang po siya sa pagmamahal. Parang wala pong nagmamahal sa ‘kin na nanay at tatay.”
Meanwhile, Mandy’s mother, Cristina, promised that she would take good care of her kids and make up for her shortcomings. She also thanked Mandy for taking care of the family while she’s in jail.
On her 12th birthday, Mandy’s wish finally came true when she and her siblings were finally reunited with their mother. While Cristina was being interviewed by the KMJS, her kids suddenly came into the picture which made her break down in tears.
The siblings were finally back in their mom’s arms, but for 12-year-old Mandy, there was still one piece missing that would truly make her family complete. She still wants to meet her dad.
