MANILA, Philippines — Threatened with arrest if she ignored its summons, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos appeared at the House of Representatives’ inquiry into the allegedly anomalous purchase of vehicles using the province’s share of the tobacco tax.

Marcos snubbed the past four hearings of the committee on good government and public accountability, prompting the panel to subpoena her on pain of arrest.

Marcos was accompanied by her mother, Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos and former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

Six Ilocos Norte employees have been detained at the Batasan Complex since May after they were found in contempt for refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
