Joey de Leon recently made waves online after he made insensitive comments about depression. Fortunately, the outspoken variety show host has since learned the error of his ways and issued a public apology on “Eat Bulaga.”
The topic of depression was brought up on Thursday, October 5, when the “sugod bahay gang” hosts Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, Alden Richards, and Maine Mendoza visited the house of a lucky winner who revealed that she was suffering from depression.
Maine Mendoza took a stand on the issue by saying that it was a serious issue because there are a lot of people who suffer from this disorder. Joey de Leon dismissed depression by claiming that the winner was just making it up.

He then added, “Pag mayaman, depression.
Because of Joy’s insensitive and ignorant comments, many netizens said that the host should educate himself about the topic at hand before talking about it in such a dismissive manner.
Yesterday, October 6, Joey de Leon issued an apology on air during the “Juan for All, All for Juan” segment. Below is an excerpt of his apology.

The host then narrated that his wife, Eileen, together with their children lectured him about depression. He states that they corrected him by clarifying the difference between stress and depression. He said that he was embarrassed after knowing that he has people close to them who actually suffer from this disorder.
De Leon also have apologized to Maine the night prior to issuing his public apology.
