In March 2016, a homeless man wandered into Abi’s Cafe in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was asking the owner, Cesia Abigail Baires, for a few bucks. “Why don’t you have a job?” Cesia asked. “You know nothing is given to me for free, right?”
The homeless man then told her his heartbreaking story. Apparently, because of his history of felonies, business owners refused to accept him as a worker.
He was then forced to stay in the streets, and turn to stealing and panhandling just to survive. Though Cesia felt sympathetic towards Marcus, she refused to give him money. Instead, she does something that will change both of their lives forever.
Cesia’s small restaurant in Minneapolis had been struggling to stay afloat. When Marcus walked in, Cesia felt an instant connection with him.
“You want a job? Then I have one for you,” Abigail told him. With a big grin, the man gladly accepted the woman’s offer: “I will do anything for food.”
After two weeks of working with Marcus, Abi has finally offered Marcus a permanent position.
Abigail said: “A lot of people are saying I’ve been a blessing for him, but at that point I was the one who needed a blessing.”
