Amid the bloody war that has already claimed innocent lives, the soldiers deployed at Marawi stay strong-willed and positive. Recently, they sparked inspiration from people after a Facebook post showing their resourceful side went viral.
In the trending post by Facebook page Scout Ranger Books, the soldiers were seen using a giant slingshot to throw grenades.
Despite lack of artillery and proper equipment, the soldiers managed to express their resourcefulness and ingenuity by creating a giant slingshot. The slingshot–which was named “Angry Ranger” after the popular game Angry Birds–is used to propel grenades in the air.
The improvised giant slingshot is propped up with wood and stands at about 6 to 7 feet high. A band is tied between the wood which serves as the slingshot. In Angry Birds, the bird characters are used as artillery but with the Angry Ranger, they arm it with grenades instead.
“Meron po kaming giant slingshot na tinatawag namin na Angry Ranger. Ang bala niya ay granada. Kada may papasukin na building ang isang Scout Ranger unit, pinapaulanan muna ni Angry Ranger ng mga granada para ma detonate ang mga IED dun.”
Why do they need to throw grenades at buildings?
This is one of the safest and quickest ways to clear an area which is crucial to advance in the battlefield. Throwing grenades is necessary to find out and detonate potential improvised explosive devices that are planted within a certain area. This way, they could clear the area or a building.
Before they throw the grenades, they make sure that the buildings are clear of civilians or innocent people.
The post also testified with the effectiveness of the Angry Ranger. According to the post, it has saved countless of lives before. Because of its efficiency, the post also hinted that another Angry Ranger v.2.0 is on the way.
“Dahil epektibo si Angry Ranger, marami na rin na save na buhay ito. Another Angry Ranger, on the way!”
