Based on their caption, the so-called “Basket Couple” is Cao Shucai and Xu Houbi, his wife. They are farmers from the Yong’an village in Chongqing, China.
Cao lost his sight in 1988 while Xu does not have the ability to walk normally because of “rickets.”
Unfortunately, the source did not mention how and why the couple got their afflictions. However, it is definite that they have been helping each other out in their daily tasks as rural farmers.
The source cited that for the past 29 years, Cao has been placing Xu in a huge basket so that he could carry her without difficulty on his back. According to them, Xu serves as his pair of eyes while she guides him so that he wouldn’t fall down from a 30 centimeter-wide field path.
Because Cao carries Xu in a basket, the netizens have fondly called them the “Basket Couple.”
