It is not every day that we get to pick our own battles. For the urban dwellers, they have to fight over a parking space, an open spot in traffic, or a seat in the crowded train. But for the rural residents, it is a constant war against weather disturbances and wild animals. In Indonesia, one man was locked in a mortal combat with a snake on a plain.

Robert Nababan is a brave, heroic 37-year-old man on his way home when he spotted a 23-foot-long python blocking the road. It was the reason that two pedestrians were unable to cross the road.

Thanks to adrenaline and dumb luck, Nababan was able to win the dangerous fight against the reptile more than twice his size.

It was a combat greater than any wresting match in WWE as the security guard grappled with the deadly snake in the middle of a road in Riau Province, while onlookers were terrified.

Dead and defeated, the snake was hung like a washing line in his village, while kids sat on it like they’re in a playground.

Nababan was brought to the hospital because he was heavily wounded, after it sunk its teeth into his upper limb.

Despite killing the snake, the snake strangler was reportedly fighting for his life in the hospital due to deep lacerations and exhaustion. The (mis)match went on for ‘some time’, according to Nababan.

“I tried to catch it. It bit my arm, and we wrestled for a while,” he said to Indonesian media as he lay on his hospital bed.

However, his interview with Indonesian media reporters broke off halfway when Nababan’s family asked journalists to leave the hospital.

Despite his bravery, some netizens called out Nababan’s actions, saying that the snake was not harming anyone. It was probably minding its own business when it was killed. But others were surprised with the sheer size of the python.

It wasn’t the first time that Indonesians encountered huge reptiles in the countryside. Last March, one West Sulawesi man had a fatal skirmish when he was found lifeless inside the snake’s stomach.
