He was crying in pain after he was numerously robbed and beaten up.
It is a sad fact that as many people get richer, more and more homeless people fill the streets. With the increasing number of homeless people, the chances of them surviving the streets decreases. Thankfully, there are many heroes who go out of their way to help the needy.
Katy Hurst from Independence, Missouri was in the drive-thru of her local Burger King, when she saw an old man crying. She immediately recognized him as one of the homeless people living in their area.
“I saw him crying, he broke down, and I didn’t know who this person was,” Hurst told KSHB. “I had seen him through the community. He used to have a bike with a cart.”
“I pulled around to wait for my order and he was there and he broke down crying,” Hurst told KMBC.
Hurst says she eventually learned the frail 57-year-old’s name was Pops. Apparently, he had been robbed and beaten several times—and now he had nothing. But the reason behind his tears was more heartbreaking. Hurst soon found out that he was crying in pain.
Pops was suffering from a broken collarbone and several ribs after being beaten up by unknown thugs. His injuries left him in extreme pain, but he couldn’t do anything to ease the hurt as he didn’t have money.
Pops then told Hurst that he just wanted it to end. “I just want to go,” he said.
Hurst invited him back to her home, where he was offered a meal—a kind gesture Pops eagerly accepted. Even something as simple as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich meant the world to him.
“One of my favorites,” he told KMBC
However, Hurst could only do so much since she had children to take care of as well. That was when she started a crowdfunding page to raise money for him and sent him to the hospital to heal.
“This is Pops! He’s a sweet man down on his luck,” Hurst wrote. “He currently lives in a homeless community where he’s been robbed and beaten several times. Pops needs our help to show him that this world is still full of good people!”
