Everyone experiences problems. It may be simple, but it can also be hard and heavy. Unfortunately, there are those who find no solution to their difficulties and they think the only way they could make their minds rest is to end their own existence. However, su!c!de is never the answer. That’s what a stray cat named Scout wants to tell a former military soldier, Josh Marino.
The war has left Josh Marino scarred not only physically, but also mentally. In fact, one of the conditions he was suffering from was PTSD.
Because of it, he felt lost and even getting up in the morning felt like a chore. He did not enjoy his usual hobbies and he became afraid and was easily agitated.
Tired of everything, he decided he did not want to live anymore. So he smoked what he thought would be his last cigarette in the rain. That night, he was assured that he did not want to continue his life.
While he was sitting outside his house, he noticed something move in the bushes. Later, a black and white kitten showed up.
“He just walked up and started rubbing up against my leg and let me pet him. I broke down crying, burst into tears. Maybe he knew there was something I couldn’t quite handle,” Josh shared to Mutual Rescue.
Following that night, he started feeding the cat which is fond of snoozing on his knee.
When Josh calls its name, it instantly runs to him. The kitten gave Josh some sort of purpose to go on with his life. He grew attached to his new pet and named it, ‘Scout.’
“I stopped thinking about all my problems, and I started thinking about all his problems,” Josh said.
However, one day, the cat suddenly disappeared. Josh came looking for Scout, but he did not have any luck finding his furry little friend. That’s when he realized how much the kitten has helped him with his life. It was really hard for him to lose the creature that saved him from himself.
Thankfully, after a few months, they were reunited.
Josh and his girlfriend went to Fort Riley Stray Animal Shelter to look for a cat they could take in.
As they were going around the place to look for a new pet they could bring home, Josh saw something he thought he would never see again.
“All of a sudden a little black and white paw shoots out from a crate and starts smacking me in my left arm. I looked inside, it is the same little black and white cat. I opened up that cage, and I pulled him out, and I held him tight,” Josh shared.
And so Josh adopted Scout and took him home and they happily lived together.
