In the middle of the year, Executive Order 26 made the smoking ban effective nationwide. This E.O. aims to eliminate smoking in public and private utilities, school, and food establishments. There are designated areas where you can freely smoke. According to CNN Philippines, those who fail to comply will ‘face fines ranging from ₱500 to ₱10,000 depending on the number of offenses’. Even without this E.O., it is logical that we shouldn’t smoke near a gas station.
There are several rules we should follow when we’re refueling at a gas station. Like turning off your cell phone, removing all ignition sources, and of course, smoking is strictly prohibited. However, this guy in Sofia, Bulgaria broke an important rule while refueling at a gas station.
Upon arrival at the gas station, the man had his lit cigarette out of his window. He was sitting on the passenger side. According to Newsner report, the guy was told several times to put his cigarette out. He didn’t seem to pay attention to that. When the surveillance camera caught him with a lit cigarette, an employee went after him and bombarded him with a fire extinguisher. Apparently, there were two other guys inside the car. Both got out after their car got covered with powdered chemicals from the fire extinguisher.
In the video, we could see the guy having an argument with the concerned employee. Obviously, the employee did that for everyone’s safety. As we can see on the video posted by E&D Media on Youtube, there is another motorist who was at the gas station.
Good thing that the employee was quick to action. If he didn’t teach this guy a lesson, it’s hard to imagine what could have resulted from his purely negligent actions.
It is important that we are entirely aware of the laws, and rules and regulations being passed because no one is exempted from not being aware of these orders. Be it at a Gas Station or other establishments. We have to remember that laws and rules are there for a reason. Our safety and the safety of people around us are more important than burning your own lungs.
