Palace Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson turned the tables on Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s proposal to sue her and two others for libel.

Like a well-played game of truth-or-dare, Uson will quit from her post if Trillanes wins the case. But if he loses, he should step down as senator.

In a video posted on her Facebook page on September 12, the staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte made the bold declaration.

“Ituloy mo ang kaso, hinahamon kita, at kung mananalo ka, magre-resign ako. Ngunit kung matalo ka, ikaw ang mag-resign.”

She also upped the challenge. If Trillanes doesn’t push through with the libel case, it only proves that he is a coward. Or in Pinoy parlance, “walang b***g,” which was bleeped out of the clip.

Uson also requested the senator to research on the words “alleged” and “allegedly”. These are the terms she used in her Facebook post when she leaked the details of Trillanes’ offshore bank accounts.

This prompted the opposition senator to announce his plans of filing libel charges against Uson, radio personality Erwin Tulfo, and journalist Ben Tesiorna. These three are reportedly behind the Davao Breaking News, a so-called fake news website that first reported Trillanes’ foreign bank accounts.

According to the post, the senator had accounts with Nova Scotia Bank and Hongkong Shanghai Bank, commonly known as HSBC.

“Kaya nga within the next few days I will file a case against itong si Mr. Erwin Tulfo, si Ms. Mocha Uson at itong si Mr. Ben Tesiorna. Kakasuhan ko sila ng libel,” he said during a media conference in the Senate.

The senator presented copies of 12 signed bank secrecy waivers submitted to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and the Office of the Ombudsman. These allow the government to scrutinize his bank accounts for any suspicious transactions.

In the latest turn of events, Trillanes also challenged Duterte, his biggest critic, to sign bank waivers for the latter’s existing accounts.
