Well-known veteran journalist Tony Calvento reportedly passed away on Monday, October 9, according to his son Sonny Calvento‘s Facebook post. According to reports, the journalist died due to multiple organ failure.
Antonio Alberto Calvento, or more commonly known as Tony Calvento, is a multimedia journalist famous for his reports on print, television, radio, as well as in social media. He has gained fame for his “Hotline” column in the local newspaper, People’s Journal. In addition to this, he had been writing a column for the Philippine Star publications titled “Calvento Files.” This was later turned into a show which he himself hosted, “The Calvento Files,” a crime and investigation show that aired from 1995 to 1998 in ABS-CBN.
Together with Ricky Lee, Calvento produced a movie version of this titled “Calvento Files: The Movie,” which was directed by Michael de Mesa and Laurenti Dyogi.
He won several awards for this as well as the Golden Scroll for Journalism.
His son said in his Facebook post that the remains of the 63-year old Calvento will be in Chapel 3 at The Heritage Park in Taguig. Funeral services will take place starting today, October 10 until October 13 at 3 in the afternoon onwards. The last day of services will be on October 14 where his body will be cremated.

Recently, the journalist made waves on social media when he had a bit of a misunderstanding with comedian Vice Ganda. According to reports, the “It’s Showtime” host compared one of their contestants to Calvento’s appearance which then offended the columnist. He threatened to file a criminal case against Vice Ganda should he refuse to make a personal apology.
