The Mamasapano Massacre on January 25, 2015 that resulted to the death of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) has been brought to light once again after former President Beningo Aquino III was indicted by the Ombudsman for the violation of the antigraft law and usurpation of authority.

Widows of the slain SAF44 demand justice as the possibility of a case being pursued against Aquino has been realized.

He (Aquino) is the primary official responsible for the death of our loved ones,” said Melanie Duque, wife of PO3 Andres Duque Jr., one of the soldiers slain by Moro rebels.

Duque blames the former Yellow president for the faulty mission in Mamasapano and said that he should be jailed for the consequences it brought to their families.

Additionally, the promised Php 300, 000 social welfare assistance to Duque’s family was cut short and they had only received Php 201, 000 which was used for the construction of their new home.

In a Duterte administration, Duque hopes that the charges against Aquino will be carried out quickly so the SAF44’s families can “get justice”.

Former Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Alan Purisima and SAF commander Director Getulio Napeñas Jr. are also charged with the same cases.

With the recent developments, Duque exclaimed how grateful she is for the reopening of the case since it surfaced more than two years ago.

I have been crying. [With the latest development], I believe that PO3 Duque is rejoicing,” she said.

Another widow, Merlyn Gamutan of Senior Inspector Joey Gatmutan looked forward to seeing Aquino and his cohorts jailed for their offenses.

Our husbands would still be alive if not for their negligence,” she said.
