Not long ago, photos of an unconventional couple who were spotted being very sweet in an eatery in Samar went viral on social media. The two of them, a Dutch woman and a Filipino surfer, got the attention of netizens because of their difference in terms of race, color, and appearance. The owner who was inspired by their love story took snaps of them and uploaded them on Facebook.
Migs Cano who posted the pictures on the internet wrote:
“Ang sweet nila sobra. At ramdam ko na mahal na mahal nila ang isat isa. Sana sa mga bashers nila shut up kayo kung makakasakit lang kayo ng damdamin. Nasira yung bus nila so nagkaron kami ng chance na mag-usap kasi naman ang daming comments ng mga tao lalo na yung mga empleyado namin.”
Due to the attention that the couple got on social media, it caught the eye of the popular GMA show, “Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho.” They got featured and the two of them revealed how they fell for each other.
It was then revealed that the woman’s name is Lisa who is a student from Netherlands. She went on a vacation in La Union while Roger is a local surfing instructor there.
Roger shared that he started surfing at the age of five, making him a master of the craft. He instructs both local and foreign tourists who visit the island. The man said he may not look that attractive, but at least he has a nice body and gorgeous abs.
The instructor told the show that it was not the first time that a foreigner got attracted to him. In fact, Slovakian, German, and Russian women had previously fallen for his charm.
He explained that it was his surfing skills that got their attention. However, none of those flames lasted.
Meanwhile, Lisa was in the country for her internship in Cebu where she worked as a social worker in a sexual exploitation victims shelter. While they were on a break, she and her friend decided to go to the Surfing Capital of the North, La Union.
The foreigner first caught a glimpse of Roger when he came out of the water after diving. He got her attention due to what Lisa thought was an ugly haircut.
“First impression was oh sh*t. Who is he, like, wow! Who is that guy? But also, I thought oh, that’s a Casanova—a playboy,” Lisa shared.
During her stay in La Union, Lisa asked Roger to teach her how to surf, but it was her friend Carla whom he instructed. The following day, the Filipino couldn’t stop thinking of the Dutch woman so he started searching for her. When he finally saw her, he realized how strong his attraction was and decided to pursue her.
The two have fallen in love and the foreigner extended her vacation from three to five days.
Lisa told KMJS:
“He is sweet and kind. He tries to understand me always, not that it’s always possible, but he tries to. I think the really good thing is that Roger’s mindset is really positive. Even when I was in Netherlands, ohhh so many papers like I can’t do this anymore. He really motivates me. He makes me feel much better and stronger.”
The Dutch national was wondering why their photos went viral as she believes they are just like any other couple who are in love.
“Malawak yung pagmamahal ko sa kanya, parang dagat na hindi mo siya masukat. Kasi para sa’kin siya na yung pinaka-importanteng bagay,” Roger said.
Distance never became a hindrance for them as they stayed in touch while Lisa was in Netherlands. Two months later, she went back to the Philippines to be with the person she loves.
They are planning to go on a tour around the Philippines and is currently visiting Catanduanes.
